Our Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima

The pilgrimage that we made to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima was about more than visiting a holy site, it was like coming home. I’m not sure what I expected before arriving, but once we were there, something about it felt so familiar and right; I couldn’t help but feel like I belonged there.

The pilgrimage was something that we had been planning for years; it felt right to finally go. As soon as we arrived, I knew that everything had led up to this moment and that our pilgrimage was destined to be one of the most sacred experiences of our lives.

A Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is a trip taken for the sake of pilgrimage. A pilgrim is a traveler who makes such a journey. Usually, they go to a shrine or other location in order to gain spiritual and inspirational insight into their lives.

And here we talk about my travels to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima.

What I was expecting and what happened when we arrived in Fátima, Portugal

I was not sure what to expect before arriving at the shrine. I had only visited sites of pilgrimage once before with my family while living in Italy so although pilgrimage has always felt sacred to me, I didn’t know what to expect visiting this particular pilgrimage site.

Coming Home

Arriving at the shrine of our lady of Fatima was like coming home; everything had led up to this moment and I knew it was destined to be one of the most sacred experiences of my life.

I was never moved by the idea of pilgrimage before this trip; but after spending four days walking in the footsteps of Jesus, it’s safe to say I’ll never look at pilgrimage the same way.

Arrived

Arriving at the shrine of our lady of Fatima pilgrimage site in Portugal was a pilgrimage of faith, family, and friends. We spent our pilgrimage not only praying in the shrine itself but also in Lourdes, France which is about 200 miles away from the pilgrimage site in Fatima.

Our pilgrimage to the Fatima pilgrimage site was an honor because it gave me shivers running up my back when I saw the first glimpse of the monument.

Praying

The pilgrimage to the shrine pilgrimage site of our lady was definitely a journey I will cherish. Praying in each of the sites around the shrine was really something else. It is so interesting because there are pilgrimage guides leading visitors through each of the sites at various intervals.

Pilgrimage of Love

It was so interesting to hear pilgrims pilgrimage stories of how they cared their way through a lot of struggle and were dedicated to praying for those who have been dealt with similar struggles as them. Our Lady’s shrine truly represented pilgrimage stories pilgrimage of love, pilgrimage of heartbreak pilgrimage, pilgrimage of hope, a pilgrimage of prayer pilgrimage for one another. I can now say that our lady is present in my life because pilgrimage has made us more aware and grateful for the things we have now that are within our reach.

Our pilgrimage trip was definitely a pilgrimage to be remembered

As we made our way through the pilgrimage route, I felt beyond grateful for this experience; everything became clear.
